Startracker escorts with impossible configurations?

  • You should scan NPCs more often. Those Liberty Navy Defenders are armed with higher class weapons than the Defender is suppose to handle. They must have some special government issue models. Upon scanning the model numbers are identical. But a visual check also confirms some differences, the tail for example. ---------------------- Cheezwiz Free Spirit of Elite EDIT: Fixed Sig Edited by - Cheezwiz on 04-04-2003 19:37:31

  • NPC and certain playable ships have different variants. You (playing without hacks and .ini mods, anyway) only have access to the most basic of the variants, but the computer can have any of the variants. Hull HP, maximum weapon class, and other statistics increase with NPC ship variant level. Would someone else please go buy the FL guide... "If I wanted your damned opinion, I´da beaten it out of you." Edited by - Sudden Death on 04-04-2003 23:00:41

If I wanted your damned opinion, I`da beaten it out of you.

  • Strat guides are for lamers. Basic information about the ship variants like that should have been in the paper-thin manual, anyways.

  • Agreed, Strategy Guides are pointless. Having so much information at your fingertips takes the fun out the game. I´d rather have a much more limited but free supply of info like I can get online. Anyway, if it´s some super-special MODIFIED model, why does it just say "Startracker"? If somebody´s driving a Startracker TYPE-R, they´re gonna flaunt it

  • As far as I can tell, only Military ships have weapons that seems to outclass the ships. EG: Ive seen plenty of Police and Naval fighters have weapons up to 3 levels higher than they should, but I´ve never seen, say, Corsair or Hessian so hopped up. I believe it is the difference between Civilian and Military models. Kind of like the 2003 Hummer. Now severly stunted compared to the military version.

  • Nog is correct. The Military and Police organizations always get the better models. Like in the Civilian world (Unless you are Arnold Swarzzenegger) you can´t legally by a Hum-Vee with the .50 Cal Machine Gun mount on it....It´s Military ONLY. The US Police get the Ford (and some other manufacturers) Crown Victoria and LTD cars with a "Police Package" that increases top end speed, and Horse Power, gas milage...etc. There is a "Civilian" version of it, but it doesn´t increase performance. For the Police, they must have vehicles that can outperform standard civillian cars. It appears that Freelance has taken this into affect. I have seen Startrackers take on Corsairs that have bigger and badder ships (M3 and M7 classes) and come away winners...Limping winners mind you.. It is perfectly conceivable to see an Uber Startracker registered to a Police or Navy organizaion in the game...It´s reality. Even the major Shipping companies may have uber ships too...(Granted...Not compared to any of our ships we run in the game) Here´s an interesting thought....Give the Liberty Navy a M10 Class Titan, with C10 shields and weaps...They MIGHT last longer in a fight.... -Arg <img src=´http://www2.arkansas.net/~jkeas/images/arg1.jpg ´> Something Awful

  • That makes sense, but if the Navy sends civilians on combat missions, they should make combat ships available to them

  • Too bad the olice in Freelancer don´t stand a chance against the top-end criminal ships. I wonder how the world would be different if that were the case in reality... <img src=´http://link.freepichosting.com/image.cgi/30911/0.jpg ´> -From the gates of Heaven to the depths of Hell; one, the Protecter; sees all, knows all, defends the innocent.

  • "The simplest answer is often the right one." Who said that again? You guys are looking into this too much. By your logic, I shouldn´t be able to get high level ships in ANY houses, let alone the Rheinlanders, who are probably the most paranoid of the lot. Also, why would Liberty send wave after wave of level 1 fighters at you during your escape from Manhattan if they had better ships in tow? I´ve said this so many times on this forum, I think I´m going to be sick: It doesn´t have make sense. These things are designed to drive the game, usually with no good reason behind it.

  • just a little piece of advice.. the Strat guide is worthless. i bought it cuz it supposedly had info on everything out the wazoo. (read typical strat guide hype) in actuallity it passed of common sense as advanced tactics. it has some good reference pages such as commodity pricing for every commodity at every base, factions, ship stats, and of course, the walkthru. but there is nothing in the book that can´t be found here for free. it´s more cost effective to print out a dozen or so pages than to buy the start guide by sybex

  • I think the Police/Military/House ships get the higher level weapons because the game levels them up with you to make a more even playing field. I mean, it would be lame if your level 18 and can just waste navy defenders in 2 shots. Also, i believe all ships do that. I scaned a Hacker Dagger after misson 4 and it had class 4 and 5 guns. I went back to NY, worked my arse off to by a Dagger and it had 3 and 4 class guns. just a thought... paks

  • N00bish question? what does NPC stand for? National Police Coalition? SPQR
