playerfiles encryptoin

  • To be honest about it. I really think that a mod creator should be able to encrypt their files to prevent thievery.

For example, critical files are encrypted and then protected with a keyed sequence pass code that only the server can supply to unlock the player files for those who play the specific mod on that server. When the player logs off, they still have the files on their computer, but are unable to open or decrypt them since they do not possess the unlock pass code key.

On a wild guess, this would enable to player to still use the existing MP game without causing server crashes, cheat kicks, bans or themselves to CTD because of incompatability issues. The "locked files" are simply ignored by the other servers.

  • Yeah. Something like that. The server simply supplies the missing key during
the communication process between server and player.

Could be as simple as a missing sequence of alpha-numerics in a packet.
    example:
    x8j3 LiK0 _ _ _ _ B7z5

  • There should be a way to implement it. The server and player platforms must be in communication with each other for the MP aspect to function.
I'm not sure about scripting, but it seems that some .dll or .ini would be involved.
Take for instance the freelancer.ini (game configuration)
It has a lot of useful information worth analyzing.

is there a tool in the download section or somewhere else which can mass-encrypt AND mass-decrypt playerfiles?

Install and start flcharadmin then do "rebuildindex", this will decode all player charfiles.
