Freelancer crash - my screen turns off

 • Had this as well and it ended up as the refresh rate of my monitor was set to high. I was using 100mzh and had to use 85 to stop the crashes which resulted in the monitor going in to standby. So lower your monitors refresh rate.

 • I have the same problem, but it goes back to the desktop when it ´dies.´ It used to do that right at the main menu, but I took out almost all of the saved game files from my documents/my games/freelancer.... Now it works for a while, but when I try to dock at certain places, it goes back to the desktop again. It is quite frustrating.

 • I think I have the same problem. system: AMD 1800+ with nvidia geforce4 ti 4200 it crashes back to the desktop, creating the windows send-error pop-up, at the start of every cutscene. It seems that it´s able to view one cutscene (like the intro) but when it has to load another, it crashes. i made it to the bar and even talked to juni, through lots of saving and reloading the entire game, but it seems it won´t get further... maybe it has something to do with the videocard, cause it does run nicely at my sisters pc with a geforce4 MX 440.

 • Kbuhln, on your spec sheet, you didn´t list a sound card type, but you might wnat to check and see it your sound card and the video card are sharing the same IRQ´s and memory addresses. Easiest way to check that is that on your desktop, click Start->Run->type "msinfo32" (without the quotes)->click on the + next to Hardware Resources->IRQs. If it´s not sharing an IRQ, then go to Conflicts/Sharing and check to see that it is not sharing any memory addresses. If this doesn´t help you out, post back here and I´ll keep digging around for more. Zapie, same goes for you on the sound card, because certain sound cards will conflict with the video card you have. I just retired mine because the GPU burned up. I was sharing an IRQ with my SB PCI 512. I´m now running with an Asylum GeForceFX 5200 Ultra and a SB Live 5.1, and I haven´t experienced any problems yet (178 hours of play time!!!!). Hint: Don´t have anything in the PCI port next to the AGP port, because your BIOS will have a tendancy of having those 2 ports share and IRQ and memory addresses together. Trust me, I found out the hard way by burning up my nVidia GeForce Ti 4200 and my SB PCI 512! DoomSayer ....and there shall come one, one who will speak your doom.... Edited by - DoomSayer on 12-06-2003 18:14:52

 • Kbuhln, I figured out what might be causing your problems. Based on what you´ve posted, you have a VIA-powered motherboard with an intergrated AC´97 sound card right? Well, after consulting with my t/s team, we might have a solution for you. You need to identify your motherboard manufacturer. Go to http://www.guru3d.com and download the Sandra 2003 freeware program. Use it to identify the m/b and then goto the m/b manufacturer website and download their latest CMOS/BIOS driver for your m/b. Flash your BIOS which will update the on-board audio codec that the AC´97 uses, then go to http://www.viaarena.com and download the "4-in-1 VIA Hyperion Driver Update". Contained in this update is the new Win XP drivers to correct the problems with the AC´97 conflicting with the audio codecs used by WinXP. After doing all this, you should be good to go. Reply to this if you´ve got any other questions or problems concerning this issue. DoomSayer ....and there shall come one, one who will speak your doom....

 • Ok Kbuhln, give us a bit to pour over the data and we´ll get back to you. DoomSayer ....and there shall come one, one who will speak your doom....

 • hi i have the same problem, i have a XP-2400+ on a Asus A7V8X (with AC97...) and a FX5600 Ultra from Leadtek with Win2K Pro and all SP I have already flashed my bios et updated all my drivers, i´ve been trying all the detonators drivers (even 44.10 and 44.65) and i still have that problem it quits in the 1st mission when the convoy is attaqued, and open the send-errorlog window, and my mouse doesn´t respond until i have closed that window or worse, i get a blue screen KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED is this really a problem with all FX cards (mine isn´t recognzed by the game at startup)?? NB: the only conflict/share i see is IRQ21 for all my USB ports, isn´t it normal? Edited by - hypo on 21-06-2003 13:23:33
