MP Modding on Alpha2

The cloaking mod angers me to no ends. As do people who defend it. Why? It works on "pure" servers. It works on patched servers. For an example of why I hate it, consider this: Asshole with cloaking mod jumps on AC2, proceeds to camp the manhatten docking ring. Moo, guess what? Unless you have the cloaking mod yourself (or unless you have the newly released anti-cloak thing), there ain´t jack **** you can do about it.

Well time to educate the Modders as well as the idiots that use the mods. How many have a readme that says that there mod will cause lag/server crashes if the server doesnt have it installed. Posted in the mod general forum but guess it was over looked, the FL community needs to do something about it as the community <b>made </b> the problem in the first place. I dont think your average cheating little brat actually gives a damn about the lag or other detrimental affects to the server. Cheating is an act of extreme selfishness - they ´steal´ enjoyment from the rest of us - so you expect them to care?

If I catch a cloaker on AC 2, he´s dead. I have seen these cloakers come on and camp kill everyone. Good to see your replies comrades and that Im not alone in my thoughts......so maybe in space people can actually here you scream after all...hehe Perseus, maybe we should get the anticloaking and other mods that counter the cheaters ones. Thanx for the list as well but personally I dont think Id like to see Alpha2 become a hostile server so maybe a friendly chat with the cheaters would be a good first step in the right direction. Well, I think wasssupppp is making amends with his latest version of anti-cloak. Nice job, although, we´re hesititant to install the latest version on Elite for fear of losing stability. Bottom line, if you use the cloak on the Elite server, you´re gone...period, end of story. I´ll be the first one to admit this mod seems innocent on the server stability issues, but it´s <b> STILL </b> a mod and off limit on Elite. I´ve been telling a few of the server admins out there how to identify these jokers and it does seem to help, but it´s labor intensive. Still, they can be found and dealt with expeditiously. If anyone spots a cloaker on the Elite server, please, contact the server admin at the email addy listed on the server news or email me directly at pierre@beol.net and we´ll look into it. Don´t expect an instant ban without some research on our part, but once a player is identfied, it´s fairly easy to determine if they´ve been usintg the cloak. We (Elite admins) have come to depend on the pilots to self-police simply because we have lives outside of the FL universe (imagine that!). But we´ve equiped ourselves with some extremely nice server tools to enable us to research infractions like this. Just point us in a direction, we´ll take care of the rest. I get asked occasionally if I ever get to play this game myself...my canned response is it seems being a server admin is a full time job. Hehe, the sacrifices we make to provide a solid, stable server. Labor of love I tell ya.

I got the anticloak and it seems to work though if the A2 admins get into this then I will hopefully be able to take off. Also does anyone know how to kill someone who has an impenatrable hull as there is a dockcamper on A2 at the moment shooting people. Oh yeh almost forgot ....his name is ARROW!! I didn´t realize that so many people were offended by the cloaking device, primarily because it´s not my initial reaction - when I get a new toy - to begin coming up with ways to exploit the game with it. For good-natured fliers, the cloaking device provided a means to avoid dock-camping in areas where that is a nuisance. It also allowed players to stlealthily explore systems that would have otherwise been too dangerous for them to enter, which may *sound* like a cheat, but rationally, this has generally been the point of cloaking devices in science-fiction. I know that, in Earth and Beyond, it´s an actual skill that´s worked into the game world that certain races and classes can master. I always thought that cloaking technology was probably one of the features that Microsoft dumbed out of the product that Digital Anvil had initially envisioned. It would take some well-thought mod-designing to make it less exploitable.
