Rome: Total War

  • I had posted that in my original thread. I think the demo is much better as romans, more tactics needed <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> I can win with the carthagians without even moving them, on easy.

Tis pure logic, dear lads, to see That I spam less, Far less, Than thee. [img=http://www.desktop-designz.com/imagehosting/pete.jpg]

  • don´t play on easy! only girls play on easy, play on hard and earn your laurels. I don´t play anything on easy, what´s the point?

"for once, i`ll actually tell you what i was thinking; but maybe i won`t have anything to say.."

  • I CAN WIN THE GAME ********WITHOUT EVEN MOVING********** THE CARTHAGIANS AROUND ON THE EASY SETTING...that means I can just turn the screen off and walk away and I´ll still win. I never told anyone to play on easy... ..someones getting old...*note: joke*

  • I´m wondering whether or not I should wait until a &quot;Gold Edition&quot; comes out with the inevitable expansion pack added. But I do not know if I can wait that long!

  • &quot;I never told anyone to play on easy...&quot; that´s true, you didn´t actually say that; I &quot;assumed&quot; that from a cursory glance at wot you did writ.

"for once, i`ll actually tell you what i was thinking; but maybe i won`t have anything to say.."

  • I sometimes play on easy if the plot is good and I´m curious about the story. Still, after that I usually feel the need to replay the game on harder levels. Life is sexually transmitted

  • you can win but can you keep the losses down that is the goal, I played the scenario a few different ways, I won every time but you can lose alot of men if you do things wrong.

  • you´ll know when you´ve reached some sort of tactical par with the Roman generals when you can decisevely defeat the enemy with auxiliaries only and not even engage your legions, a la Mancetter.

"for once, i`ll actually tell you what i was thinking; but maybe i won`t have anything to say.."

  • I thought the main troop actual Roman soldiers led the charge downhill on the advancing Britons? Wasn´t there a Roman cavalry too or were those guys just mercenaries as well?

  • auxiliaries were allied forces operating under Roman command and incorporated into the Roman battle-order. Archers, skirmishers, cavalry and specialist troops were almost always auxiliaries from Roman territories, eg the batavians (Dutchies) supplied light horse, as did the Gauls. Mancetter is notable for having been a victory gained entirely by the use of auxiliaries, as is reoirded. Paulinus didn´t engage with his legions at all. Boudicca´s forces were so confident of victory that they left their baggage train right behind their line, and with typically celtic indiscipline, broke when their first manic charge failed to dent the Roman line. They got hindered by their waggons, which contained their families along to watch the Romans get a stuffing, and in the ensuing rout, the battle broke up into small unit actions which the auxiliaries easily overcame. Rather difficult to see in the suburbanised Mancetter of tday, but the general topography of the land is still there.
