Inverting the mouse..

  • Workaround : Turn your mouse upside down, and get used to pressing the buttons with the heel of your palm <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> Or you could turn your monitor upside down, your choice <img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> &lt;sig deleted by automatic censor&gt;

  • no option, it has taken me 3 sessions with the demo to get over the FPS of seeing the ship below me and pushing to go down...at first I thought I´d have a mind meltdown...but it got better. <img src=´http://www.boomspeed.com/colgreen/bfd.jpg ´> When it absolutely, positively needs to be ~~*BOOM*~~`(static)

  • What seems like a no brainer to me is WHY this isn´t an option. You want to push up to follow a ship going down (like a joystick)....now shoot at it....Oh, you can´t hit it? Why? your mouse cursor is up at the top of the screen firing your weapons out into space and not down at the ship below you...hmmmm.....

  • Yeah, I would love to have this option (doesn´t seem like a big deal to implement). I played the demo for the first time last night, my first taste of the mouse controls. Like everyone says, after 30 seconds, you´re fine. But the uninverted mouse still messes with me. Please allow us this option. Thanks.

  • Well, I see your point Grimm but that is just one more design flaw they let in. The more I read and play the demo, the more likely I am to cancel my pre-order. I´ve been a Chris Roberts´ junkie for years since the first Wing Commander. I was depressed when he left Origin...no more games from him. Then I heard about Digital Anvil and my hopes soared with news of Starlancer and Freelancer. I was a little disappointed when Starlancer came first but I could wait. Now Chris is gone again and it looks to be showing in the game design.

  • How can it be a design flaw? They intended for this to be a mouse driven interface, not a mouse-acts-like-a-joystick interface. There was never any intention for the pointer to go anywhere but toward your target, thus you can fly toward it and fire at it at the same time. Just because it´s different than a joystick interface doesn´t make it &quot;wrong&quot; or &quot;flawed&quot;. BTW, If you see my point, how could you WANT to fly the other way....how would you target while you flew? You wouldn´t be able to and that´s WHY it´s not designed that way. You are asking for a &quot;feature&quot; that would make combat pretty much unplayable. Wouldn´t that makey your request flawed?

  • grim you are a no brainer <img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> think before you post, how does inverse mouse work in an fps ? right? now want you still say it would not work <img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> its a total simply option, and they still leave it out, I play every ftps with inverse mouse, but for fl I have to learn it new ;-)

  • Its like the left click/right click functions in a stratgy game. Like C&amp;C:G, AoM, WarIII and all the others. It messes with you. It´s been built into you subcon. there for you take down for up and vice - versa. Just like the Lc/Rc functions. I used to hate weddings; all the Grandmas would poke me and say, &quot;You´re next sonny!&quot; They stopped doing that when i started to do it to them at funerals.

In a first person shooter you move around directly, whereas you control a mouse pointer in Freelancer. How does your mouse pointer work in Windows? Up = Down? • See, here´s the problem - you get all these intolerant Mouse Nazis (tm) in here, implying that everyone who prefers an inverted y-axis on the mouse is an idiot (and don´t even think of mentioning a joystick). The FACT is that we all have preferences on how we like to play games. There is no right or wrong, only opinions. If someone likes the current mouse implementation, that´s great - pat yourself on the back. But there are others who believe an inverted mouse y-axis is more intuitive. Both opinions are perfectly valid to those who hold those respective beliefs. Implementing an inverted mouse y-axis is very easy to implement, and there is no excuse - no reason - for this to not be included in the next patch.

  • He asked someting, i gave the answer. That has nothing to do with being a Mouse Nazi (TM) but only with stating facts. Sure, it would be better to provide more options, but they haven´t. And only because we tell him that it´s not in the game and why, we are the Mouse Nazis (TM)? We didn´t design the game so we can´t change the facts. We can only tell you what the facts are. At least I´m not the one who´s getting aggressive here and who calls other people Mouse Nazis (TM). ------------- <img src=´http://home.t-online.de/home/a…s/lancersreactorsmall.jpg ´> <i>&quot;In all likelihood you´re going to die out there. • Actually, I wasn´t even referring to you, Lev. Rather the people who couldn´t answer this thread´s originator´s question seriously, instead replying with snide comments. He didn´t come in here implying that those who prefer the current mouse configuration were in any way less intelligent. Yet, some of the &quot;friendly&quot; people of these forums chose to mock him. His question is valid, and non-hostile to anyone. And I concur with with his opinion that there should be a way to invert the mouse´s y-axis. This, in fact, is bothersome to me as well. Simple physics. There is a right and a wrong way for things in a 3d world (aka the real world or aka freelancer). The physics say to move a ship/plane down, you pitch the nose forward. To move up, you pull the nose back. So in that vein, to pull the nose up, you pull back on the controls and vice versa. It is counter-intuitive to do the opposite. It is unfortunate that a DA ´desigin choice´ has basically made the game unplayable for me. But it was their choice, they wanted a game ´for the masses´ or something or other. Well I know 9 in the mass that won´t be buying.

  • This isn´t really tolerant either. There are basically two schools of thought on the mouse´s y-axis. There is no reason why both options shouldn´t be available - none. Edited by - Vagabond on 26-02-2003 13:48:06

  • theres a very big reason that theres no invert. Your mouse controls both the guns and ship at the same time, if your mouse was inverted, you would have to push up to go down after the ship your chasing, Which means your guns would be pointed away from your target. All you people tellin the people that they need to &quot;think&quot; before they post have A: not played the game or B: not thought about what your tryin to argue. <img src=´http://webhome.idirect.com/~azon/dragg.jpg ´>
