Will mod affect online /MP game ?

Seeker exaggerates. While it´s true most mods are known to crash servers and lag them badly. Some mods do not. My mod combination i mostly use is Best-path mod, super thruster mod, super cruise mods, cloak detector mod and i assure, whatever slow down my mods create, are not noticable. But please don´t start modding unless you really want to. Besides it ruins your &quot;reputation&quot; with &quot;good&quot; people like seeker. Thruster and cruise, I get those used nightly on a server I addmin on and yes they do add lag. The more non-modded players around a modded player the worse it gets. Each player around who ever has to be updated faster than the server can handle, so CPU use hits extreme levels and then lag starts.

did i not say they add lag. I only glanced through this so bare with me, Q, do mods cause lag, A, NO not unless they specificaly target the network code. Q, Do mods cause crashes A, Yes of course they do (if you have any idea of how server/client gamecode works, you understand this is always the biggest issue) What is normaly considered lag, in these situtaions is normaly as someone touched on earlier, cpu usage, or ram usage. The Problemn is in all honesty to do more with the skills of the modder/hacker/scripter/curious. The more skilled the more a threat they are to your server, especialy the more &quot;benign&quot; game hackers. Many bad things are done in the search for good things, but its the bad **** that happens along the way that causes the problem. end of rambl;e

It never ceases to amaze me people make statement without a shread of proof. Any mod is an alteration of the original design of the games original files that let´s not forget was in SEVERAL years of developement. Any modifcation made to these files will most likely have a determental impact on a server because last time I checked all known mods, none were designed with the intent of making the game easier, thus it is the otehr direction things are taken. All modification made to &quot;enhance&quot; the original design are going to have a DIRECT impact on the netwrok coding and how it renders packets. To think otherwise is simply unsupported by sound theory. Folks, this game was NOT designed to have anything more than private persistent servers used in MP. It´s not a MMOG, never said it was designed to be one either. All MODDING is going to have a bad effect on a server that caters to running the game the way it was designed by Digital Anvil. If you´re using a mod, why on earth would you use the mod on a server that isn´t designed to use said mod?????????????? Asnwer, to mess with others and make their lives hell AND become a nightmare for the server admin doing their best to provide a FREE place for others to play the game as it was designed. I´ve NEVER seen a server admin post anything on these forums that encouraged people using mods to come on and play on their server and NOT complain about stability. Either that or they host server that holds much much fewer pilots that the server could if it was kept <b> clean </b>. I challenge anyone to refute this statement, but the netwrk traffic will prove otherwise. Hell if someone created a mod and it could be used on a server that supported it AND there was no degredation of numbers, I´d jump on it myself! But such a server doesn´t exist except in fantasy land. This mod business really winds me up......It seems to me that what Stinger and Seeker say makes perfect sense. (Mod = Lag ) Certain people´s ´I´m running mods and to hell with the rest of you´ attitude just isn´t right. Aren´t people good enough players to play the game as it was made ?? Maybe if people who felt they need to run mods to be competitive took a break for a while and practised on SP till they were able to compete the rest of us would have a stable server to play on..........Rant over. <img src=smilies/icon_smile_angry.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>
