Well, the cheap DVD players here in the UK will only play Region 2 DVDs. I understand that the DVDs in the US are region 1? You can get multi-region DVD players or if you´re taking a computer with a DVD drive with you, that should be capable of playing DVD from all the different regions.

don´t worry Comont, you can pick up a multi-region DvD player for under US$100, Toshiba do some excellent ones. Most players sold in the UK out-of-town retail outlets and malls are Region 2 only (more on this in a sec <img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>) but Amazon and other such online retailers, and more specialist hi-fi/AV outlets sell multi-region, nay problem. In reality ALL dvd players are inherently multi-region, and can be cracked to play any egion. The region coding is put in AFTER manufacture and can be overridden by a hardware change (chipping) or by a software crack via the handset or a firmware upgrade by flashing from a cd. As I watch a lot of anime, and the Region 2 choice is very limited, I get a lot of hent...errr anime <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> from the US as it will prob never be released in Europe, and at least they´;re legit copies and not Region "0" Hong-Kong rips. So while some may accuse me of infringing the region copyright laws, it´s better than putting money in the pirates pockets, is it not?

I´d like to run over the guy who came up with regional dvd players. It´s the stupidest standard that´s ever been forced upon the public.

Interestingly, every DVD that I have purchaed seems to work on mine, including the DVDs my brother sent from London. I guess that Multi-Zone DVD Players are a necessity.

tbh the whole region-based marketing setup for dvds is f*kt. The player cracks are widely available, some are nothing more than handset number pad combos. The price variances between eg UK and US are so significant that it pays you to buy from the US even if you get stung by import duties, because US dvd retail prices are 50% of ours and with the strentgh of the £ v the $, it´s even better value <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>
