Changing of the Guard

  • I too think you did a great job and took it as far as you could under the circumstances Warzog. Hate to see you have to step down. As to helping out with the mod, I am still willing to help out with the bug hunting and would like to contribute by refining of the commodities that are sold at the different planets, refineries, mines and militia outpost/TCS carriers etc. This is one area I feel is out of wack with what would be percieved as what to is available for sale and what would be necessary purchases from merchant shipping companies etc. I am working on the commodities.ini file now trying to get a good balance of the proper commodities available for sale and what the merchant would buy. Bob would you please give me the FTP site address and password so that I can upload my final update to the FTP site. My address is drukin@shaw.ca Edited by - Quixotal on 2/1/2005 10:29:56 AM

  • I just want to say I hold high esteem for you and the work you´ve done John. I just want to commend you on a fine job and the countless hours you put in the mod. I´m sorry to see you step down, though I perfectly understand your reasons. I´m quite sure the mod couldn´t be better placed than in bob´s capable hands and I hope more people will join his team and make the already great mod even better in the future. I also wish you all the best in your real life John and truly hope you´ll drop in from time to time. Thanks for everything, you´ve been an inspiration to many <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> ______________________________ Eraser Webmaster of <A href=´http://www.lancersreactor.org´ Target=_Blank>The Lancers Reactor</a> E-Mail: eraser@lancersreactor.org MSN: eraser@lancersreactor.org <img src=´http://www.lancersreactor.org/t/i/lan_butt.gif ´>

  • Warzog, thankyou for dedicating so much time to this project. You´ve learned a lot about Freelancer, practically reverse-engineering the program yourself.. it´s so far beyond my comprehension. I am nonetheless, quite pleased with how things have turned out even if it´s not done. It is however quite mature in its current state as Bob pointed out.. and for what you´ve given us to work with we are truly grateful. Bob, I´ve said it before, and I´ll say it again.. I´ll do my best to help out when I can. I know i haven´t done anything lately, and due to severe time-zone differences i hardly see you on; i am sure things will work out anyway. • Am currently in the middle of a major rewrite of certain sections of the mod pertaining to combat. I don´t know how well this will work out, but if successful, it´ll go into beta soon. Stay tuned.

  • I´m sorry to see you go Warzog, but I am sure that you have a good reason for leaving. I bet that it was one of those niggling &quot;real life&quot; commitments that has prompted your departure <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>. Anyway, thanks for all of the hard work that you have put in. Rock on!

  • Well, I´ve run into my first major programming crisis. I decided to experiment and change around some of the weapon, shield and power stats. For ease of reference, I copied the current bits, renamed them (as laser, massdriver, shield_generator01, power_upgrade01, etc.) and saved them as an .XML file set to append. After replacing the references in loadouts.ini and the associated _equip and _good.inis, I booted up the mod watched the RF intro ... ... and was rewarded promptly with a CoD. No error message, no spew, no nothing. I suspected that the problem may have been with my current install of FL. I reinstalled the game on another computer, reinstalled the mod, and copied my changes. I also cleaned up the XML, removing some typos that probably caused the earlier CoD. Well, now I can get the game to start up and start a new game, but as soon as I launch to space, the mod crashes. Again, no error, no spew, no nothing - just a clean crash to desktop. I´m fairly certain there´s something obvious I´m missing here, but without any spew I´m flying pretty much blind. That´s my real concern - why don´t I get any error message? Every other program I have is glad to produce them (as I´ve been discovering daily) I´m currently reading through the Editing archives, trying to catch up on my knowledge (remember, I´ve been away from the modding mainstream for a year and a half, really), but if anyone has any ideas of what might have gone wrong with the current build, do reply. -------- &quot;Pirate! I´m not a pirate. The Spanish have pirates. I´m a <i>privateer </i>&quot;.

  • Bob, Did you added them to: Commodities_per_faction.ini Goods.ini Market_Misc.ini LootProps.ini RMLootInfo.ini Faction_Prop.ini And depending on how you modified them, ShipArch.ini? As to the no Error/Spew messages, that means that you have a very basic setup error. Or, in plain English, you´ve asked Freelancer to do something it can´t, under any circumstances, do. Error/Spew messages are only generated when you do something the wrong way. This has been one of the more time consuming problems of modding. You´ll need to undo the changes, then make one change at a time until you locate the one causing the crashes, then try and figure out why it´s crashing, and then fix it, or remove the change altogether, before adding the next one. (Loadsa FUN!) Watch your 6!

  • Thanks a bunch. It took several hours, but I finally managed to pinpoint the errors - had something to do with the new missile stats. They´ll be out of the mod until I can jury-rig a solution. Now that I´ve passed my first test and got the mod working, time to get ambitious. Expect a full report of the agenda shortly. -------- &quot;Pirate! I´m not a pirate. The Spanish have pirates. • Well... Now you´ve got a small taste of what I´ve been going through. (But I also had to deal with my POS computer constantly corrupting files.) Anywho... Good luck with the mod. Watch your 6!
