Cockpit Screenshots?

 • they dont jiggle about like in Wing Commander Prophecy and Starlancer?

 • Nice pic! I don´t need any instruments directly attached to the cockpit graphics, it´s just that i want the feeling of actually looking out of a ship. These strouts serve this purpose well enough. There are individual strouts for each type of ship, right? "In all likelihood you´re going to die out there. We´re all going to die out there, but none of us needs to be reminded of that fact. So you die, you never existed."

 • You know, when taking a closer look at the cockpit on the screenshot linked to on the front page, there seem to be no visible controls or displays in the spaceship. Maybe the ship is actually controlled by a neural interface, which also transmits all ship info directly into your brain.

 • are the ships actually controlled by your brain or is the neural net just a database (i never can get this straight), all the cockpit designs will be different right? and one more thing which view is better cockpit or 3rd person?

 • It´s never made clear in FL how the Neural Net interacts with you. Its just known that its an information center. But maybe, when Trent is flying, he isnt using any sort of flying device cept for that helmet and he controls everything with his brain. That would make sense. - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- <img src=´http://members.shaw.ca/electricbrain2/sig.jpg ´>

 • Tell that to pilots in a few decades You can tell they must be using some sort of neural interface because all the pilots are leaning back in the Lazy Boy recliner in their cockpit, with their hands resting lightly on the armrests. That is truly the way to fly IMO

 • Of course i remember it. I especially like the aft firing rockets. Guess mines wouldn´t be such a good idea in a gravtity and atmosphere enviroment.

 • I agree though, I think being able to see the struts adds to the feel of the game. I just hop it´s not something they threw in at the last minute and half arsed it. No one has answered yet, are there different strut views for the different types of ships? I´m sure that the similar ships that are just souped up look the same but I hope there is a difference between a fighter and a heavy fighter.

 • Yes, if you look at a ship from the outside, take note of what it looks like from the front - then go back in cockpit view and you´ll see that the cockpit model accurately reflects what the ship looks like. So yah, every ship has their own distinct cockpit strut. And no, it technically wasnt added in at last minute. The struts have been in the game for a long time, it was just that PR beta which they seemed to have disabled the struts.

 • The struts are back in if you get the PR beta from gamestop....The game rocks...and if anyone else complains about the mouse flight before they put their grubby mits on it...they will be shot! j/k but seriously...I started many a joystick thread back in 2000, and I will tell u now that I have first hand experience....you simply could not make this game work with a joystick!!!!! TRY IT and you´ll see. Whatever you think it is...it is different

 • "You can tell they must be using some sort of neural interface because all the pilots are leaning back in the Lazy Boy recliner in their cockpit, with their hands resting lightly on the armrests." That´s exactly how an F-16 pilot sits as well. The reclining angle is good for pulling high-G turns in atmosphere because the blood doesn´t pool in the pilot´s legs quite as badly. The main difference is that there is no joystick or throttle quadrant visible in the Freelancer screenshots. Of course, there´s no restraint harness or 02 supply visible either... --milo http://www.starshatter.com

 • they´ll definately be in the way for me. i never liked struts (yeah so a might not be a ´pure´ flier, but i can see you out of the corner of my screen... YOU CAN´T... *Boom*) i´m just glad there is an option to turn it on/off. then it´s up to the individual to choose whether or not to blindfold his/her perepheral vision or not ...Just a random thought from a random mind

 • The struts are more for explorers, it adds to the atmosphere while flying around No Surrender, No Retreat No Sorrow, But vengeance. Fight with valore, or do not fight at all!

So, if you see me in the corner of your screen, you´re already dead. Seriously: that´s what the indicator arrows are for. As long as the enemy isn´t almost in the center of the screen you can´t fire at him anyway but you can locate him by the arrow. And when you finally can fire at him, you will already see him, no matter wether the struts are on or not. ------------- "In all likelihood you´re going to die out there.
