Manuvers?

  • I am just wondering if it is possible (via a mod or otherwise), to pull off some of the real world air combat flight maneuvers? And if possible, what do you think will be their effectiveness in space combat?

    Say:

    The Pugachev's Cobra?

    A Kulbit?

    The Immelmann turn?

    Spilt-S?

  • It its impossible to do such manoevers in space.(real life)

Space is empty, it has no gravity, so basic, aerodynamics has no effect, only whay to will move like that you need steering trusters, but the manoever will be not usefull. In theory, you can trow a object in to space and it will have same speed in 500 years if it encounter nothing that wont effect it.
All movements in each direction is made by steering trusters.

The manoevers on combat airplanes needs gravity and resistence of air, combined with the power of thrust on your engine.

Now related to freelancer, its possible to create such mod, but it will effect total way of fight, no more EK(Engine Kill) or Reverse Thrust, no strafe right or Left, your aim and timing on misles will be different.
    Atm, i haven't encounter such mod :)

to pull off some of the real world air combat flight maneuvers

Is the emphasis here on "real world" or "flight maneuvers"? If second, then all those are already present in the game. Called Reverse Thruster. What all those do is using air resistance to rapidly change direction, in Freelancer a pilot can use RT to do the same thing, that is to deaccelerate to zero within seconds.

If first, dont think so, lack of atmosphere, and ship design would prohibit it. You can pull it off anyway. Hitting RT+90deg turn to top, then thruster+90deg turn back to normal. Here is the Cobra. The Kulbit: RT+360deg turn.

Note: Thinkin about it, Han Solo did a Kulbit in Episode 5. Lando Calrissian did an Immelmann's. :D

Edited: whoops i thought it was a recent post... sorry.
