This happened to me a while ago: Open up the computer case, and clean out all the dust was the solution. <img src=´http://www.planetgromit.co.uk/tlr/blaze.gif ´> BlazeME: <i>Flameus Muchus n00bus </i> <A href=´http://www.outwar.com/page.php?x=1967123´ Target=_Blank>Help me on Outwar.com</a>
Damn, computer not powering up at all <img src=smilies/icon_smile_sad.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>

sounds like you mightve fried something (obviously not the PSU), my advice: get a multimeter, set it to whatever voltage you PSU is, and check each component for conductivity, moving outward from PSU interface ports on the Mobo, hopefully you will be able to isolate the fault and bypass it(that would, at best, require you to put the mobo in to have the part replaced, at worst, requiring you to jerry-rig a new part parralell to the dead one), or failing having to buy something new. but i may be a new experience for you to try one of the new Intel Pentium 4-X with HT, heard they go about 3.6 Ghz

i reckon someone should make a new forum, a technical forum every day there seems to be someone else with a tech problem or question <A href=´http://s4.invisionfree.com/Tempest_Studios/index.php´ Target=_Blank>What once was FL2, and now is ... *hmm what is it?*</a>

shame poor EB I got a solution, throw it in water and wash it...then it wont work at all and you can buy a new one <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> The more I learn , the more I get to know, the more I get to know, the more I forget, so why should I learn?

Hmm .. sounds like it needs some oil. Open the powercase .. pour in 1 liter of Castrol GTX. Close up the computer. Take to the highest building you have there. Chuck it out of the window. If you found that the oil leaked out of the case .. the case probably needs a new oil seal.

unfortunately it sounds like you´ve picked up a dose of Stinger´s problem, EB. If you´ve checked all your power connections are ok and changed the psu, then I´m afraid it´s motherboard, and there´s nowt you can do but replace the thing. Now I know you´re not exactly flush at the moment, so tell me your motherboard make and model and I´ll tell you if it´s still readily available for replacement or what you can do instead. Remember that if your mobo is more than a couple of years old it´s the devil´s own job to find a like for like replacement. Hoever i might be able to sort you out with something if you´re really stuck. sorry i see you did put the specs at the bottom of your post. if you can´t find anything to suit, well I don´t have an Asus but i do have an Abit 440BX that takes Socket 370 ppga & fc-pga cpus, so it will be fine for you. No cost, just pay for me postage to Canadia, seeing as youre stuck. I would recommend if you´ve got some cash to upgrade properly though. 4 years is reasonable, truly, for a computer to last. I change my mobo/hd/cpu/mem/vcard every year. Edited by - Tawakalna on 3/6/2004 2:07:54 AM Edited by - Tawakalna on 3/6/2004 2:39:20 AM

@Taw. 4 years max? Really? I guess I´m pushing my luck then. I´ll be going into year 4 by the end of this one. Well I guess I´ll just tread lightly and hope my rig lasts. If not, I guess I´ll have to replace it regardless of whether 64-bit has bec

well you have the curse of WinME to contend with, of course. Go on, Ed, that´s a free shot for you! <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>

I posted this prob on Ars as well. <A href=´http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=77909774&m=435004392631´ Target=_Blank>Check it out</a> No, i dont have a multimeter and i dont want to bother with that. If its going to be the mobo, then ill just replace the entire mobo. And that would be great, Taw! How would i pay for the postage?

Dear god!!! EB may have to replace his legendary PII 450. Personally I think it should be donated to the TLR museum as one of our holy relics. All hail the Pentium 2 !!! <img src=´http://www.sighost.us/members/mustang/p2.jpg ´> Edited by - Mustang on 3/6/2004 2:44:03 PM

Paypal would be best, but I´ll take what I can get. Mail me, EB, and we´ll sort summat out. Seeing as you´re a povvo these days I´ll prob chuck in a 1ghz+ cpu as well, i´m not gonna use it for anything. Got shedloads of this stuff lying around <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> that arstechnica should be named arse-technics. Wot a bunch of amateurs. 1 guy out of the entire thread who had the answer correct. Are all the threads full of such rubbish? You stick with us EB, we´ll keep you on the straight and narrow, we´re pros. Eskie if you read this you gotta follow EBs link to that thread, just for a laugh. Unplug the mobo´s power then plug it back then if that doesn´t work take it apart and put it back together. This sounds stupid but it has worked for me and my Intermitant computer. Edit: Why am I not banned from TLR yet????? Edited by - geekus maximus on 3/6/2004 3:32:13 PM

Taw - Me? Why would I read a post about someone having computer problems? <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> That link was amusing, especially since I read the news on Ars every couple of days. *Shakes head* The MB battery not allowing the computer to start up? The standard CMOS battery only runs at 3 Volts! Classic <img src=smilies/icon_smile_big.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>.

I dont have a credit card or anything so i can do paypal <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> well, ill see...see if i can borrow someone else´s to use lol. but thanks a lot taw. <img src=smilies/icon_smile_big.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> ill email you in a bit. <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> And mustang, its a >>>P3<<< not a P2 <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> Edited by - ElectricBrain on 3/6/2004 10:03:00 PM
