30 Years of D&D!

 • Firstly, it is not a useless topic. A number of people around here (eg. grison21372) have either played, or have friends who play D&D. Furthermore, many of us have fond memories of playing the game in question. Do you deny me my privilege to post a topic about D&D on this forum? Secondly, I posted tihs topic because it is an impressive milestone, and because I thought that some people on TLR might find it interesting even if you (or Kimk ) don´t. • Actually I don´t think this is a useless topic at all. I don´t play D&D...I never really could be bothered enough to read all of the books....but I´m fascinated by the fact its 30. As a kid I always wanted a go after I saw Elliot´s brother doing it in ET Leave esq alone, I´m sure a lot of people will be interested in this...if all you can do is SPAM with complaints do it somewhere else...at least esq has taken the trouble to start a thread about something he´s interested in.

 • I still play today I have a group of friends that used to be hardcore now they play when they can. I (and they ) still manage to find new people to play or ones that played along time ago but forgot how fun it was. It is not for every one, same as in video games (I like both ) but it is not useless nor does it induce nausea (unless you have a really good descriptive dm ) So happy B-day D+D may you reign another 30 years and as long as I can get people to play I will. remember without D+D or its precursor chainmail there would be no video game rpg´s (evercrack anyone?) I Am Sharp like Bowling Ball

 • Esquilax, Cool article. I never played D&D a whole lot, but I played tons of other RPGs. I still play them occasioanally (like once a year maybe..lol). Role playing games are so unique to other styles of gameplay. The article sums it up really. You have rules and paper and pens and dice, but it´s up to your imagination to fill in the rest. I love that aspect. There are no limits. It´s a great forum for storytelling and a chance to just hang out with friends and have a few laughs. Happy Birthday D&D! Wap

 • If you look at the article, it says I never played the original D&D, but I used to have some of those adventure books, the same general idea of rolling dice, caves, monsters etc. I lacked the commitment to play them fairly though "There are 10 kinds of people in this world: those who understand binary and those who don´t"

 • i dont play DnD, i want to, but no one in north finchley plays, so i´m kinda screwed there, i have a friend, Ianthe, who plays ADnD, i remember picking up the new edition handbook the day it came out then proceeding to read it, it looks cool. so do you play it then Esq? The Angel of Darkness, lock evader extraordinare! <img src=´http://www.planetgromit.co.uk/tlr/bob.gif ´> Fight Like Warlord

 • So Esq has posted a topic about D&D... Must roll a Will Save at -2 or be forced to add a comment in the next rou- ...Damn! I´m not evil, just morally challenged

 • Wap + Grom (and other posters) - Thanks! I knew that someone would find this interesting! *Looks down nose at Supersnipa* . Good one TET . AoD - You could always try "Multi-User Dungeons" (MUDs); they are like an online form of D&D. They are usually either text or ASCII based. I wonder if Taw ever played D&D? He was around back then, but he was probably too "cool" . • Tried the game once, but could not find a impartial dungen master. The PC version is ok, just harder to get into. Playing Balders gate was about the best one to me.

 • BG and BG2 are great games, and NWN is quite good as well. Especially when you get the better visuals from SoTU . I know what you mean about impartial DMs. When my cousin DM´d a game of Battletech many years ago... I can´t go on; too many painful memories .

 • I second that... and I have to say Bioware did a pretty good job of putting D&D into the Star Wars universe in KOTOR too. (Now, if only we could solve the poor PC port... ) I´m not evil, just morally challenged

 • I first played D+D back in 1979. Back then pen and paper RPG wasn´t considered "geeky" because not many people knew or played it. Have to admit I gave it up once I turned 15 because I had started going out with a cute girl and was worried she´d dump me as a nerd. ( tsk, tsk. the things I´ll do for a skirt) Never had the chance to start up again since but I always look back at that as one of the greatest games I´ve ever played. BG and BG2 don´t compare. The real enjoyment of D+D was the interaction with your friends.

 • do you cansider Diablo as part of this genre? I don´t like DnD at all, and most fantasy/sorcery stuff I steer clear of, but ay fooki´ lurv Diablo (2) lvl 49 assassin.
