help IP problem

 • Connecting to LAN or WAN? ip´s are suppose to be 123.45.67.89 alike. how could that be? did you run ipconfig to figure out your own ip address? FYI:Start>run>type cmd >enter>type ipconfig >enter.

 • Hmm, "3se:5tf:7yu:8iu" looks more like an MP ID, or even a MAC address than an IP. Odd. What were the results of ipconfig? Edited by - esquilax on 12/12/2004 3:29:09 PM

 • No IP address has a letter in it. Current version of the IP protocol on the Internet and all residential LANs I know is IPv4. IPv6 has letters in their IP addresses but they are much larger and I don´t know anyone using IPv6 except the government and higher education. MAC addresses do have letters in them but that are hexidecimal (A, B, C, D, E and F) and are 6 groups of two digits each seperated usually by dashes. As for the FL MP ID this "IP address" is much too big with a different grouping as well. The strangeness of this IP address makes me believe this is an encryption problem. Does that sound plausible since it´s over a wireless network? _____________ Earendil SysAdmin of Boston Freelancer server Server community website & forum: EarendilsPlace.net (server rules)

 • Earendil, there are things you can use instead of a ip addy, such as http://no-ip.com/ which pretty much works like getting a domain, (but free, my domain points to there,) and should my ip addy change (it does sometimes) it then updates it self automaticly (free software must be installed) works for all the usuall stuff, ftp, http, vnc, etc inc :ports long and the short is, you never have to remember your ip. http://www.kokrull.com
