SETI and our Freelancer community?

 • partially i play just to ignore what´s goin´ on outside...on my street, in my city or universe. but i see where you are going and once it includes frrreeee passes to the first planet discovered to have all of the thus far expected exoctic pleasures of the new universe , including pan galactic gargle blasters, i´ll be the first to sign up. anyhoo...we spend more time in space than anyone else so we deserve to get on the boat before the wommin´ ´n chilren´ "My sig is in the post but the man in the shop promised I will find it witty and topical when it arrives."

 • Last year I posted some links to well researched sites claiming the Cydonia structures on Mars are clearly artificial. Nobody seemed interested though. Doubt if there is much interest here in real xenoarchaeology. No interest in things like the mysterious Yonaguni structures underwater off Japan either. Oh, well. Jose Chavez: "Trent! It´s good to see my kind of scum."

 • Y´know what I just think if there are habitable planets out dere other than earth without terraforming, this world would not be able to fund getting there When you die and go to heaven, you will find the streets are guarded by UNITED STATES MARINES!!

 • Not a bad idea, but just don´t expect *me* to install one of those damn distributed computing apps on *my* machine . Damn things use up all of your CPU time even when you set them to low priority *grumble*. Sorry, I´m just remembering the people who used to keep installing "Folding@Home" on the work PCs at my old workplace . • i have it, and so does STEEL, though i belive he´s gone awol. and esq, its a worthy cause. you might know, the data from big scientific experiements take next to forever to fully analyse and to squeese all the science out of them. given the sheer size of the arecibo radio observatory, bill gate´s home computer really isn´t enough to crunch the numbers fast enough. its a donation of your computer sleep time to aiding in crunching numbers, and in effect, aiding in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) @whoever put up the links about xenoarcheology on mars, can you repost them ? i must have missed it. i´d be terribly interested in it.

 • I once did a newspaper competition for SETI at school, and mine came joint second in the country, along with another from my school... And also first place was from my school... It wasn´t rigged, I made a cracking paper... It was a group effort but I did all the work... lol

 • I´ve run the Seti@Home Client for years. I think it would be great for Lancer´s to be represented there. Baked Potato would be the one to say whether or not we can do this. Glock36 "No Comment"

 • For those of you whom are afraid that the SETI software may actually drain your system resources or perhaps comes with hidden spyware or adware then let me try to calm your nerves a little bit. The standard SETI application can be set up in 2 different ways. The first way is specifically for fanatics or those wishing to show of the speed of their CPU´s in number crunching leagues. Using this set-up, SETI will attempt to run all day long, and depending on your system specs, this may cause slowdowns as SETI like all applications, requires CPU cycles and some ram. The second way, may be the way that is likely to be more appealing to people here. You can set SETI up as a screensaver, when you leave your computer for X ammount of time, the SETI screensaver will appear and begin to carry out its process´s, when you move your mouse, SETI will cancel all process´s and let you continue with your work / play. The screensaver is a rather attractive one considering the non-attractive tasks that it is carrying out. Adware / Spyware / Naw SETI doesnt come with any of that type of stuff. Its nice to know some people have taken interest in it Edited by - Freedom9 on 12/9/2004 5:45:28 PM

 •

Baked Potato would be the one to say whether or not we can do this.

<font face=´trebuchet ms, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica´ size=2> i beg your pardon? i didn´t know SETI was a subsidiary of TLR. if we can get organised enough why on earth do we need bp to.. authorise this ? im not saying i dont want bp in this, i just dont see what authority the mods or admins have over our creating a league that is outside TLR. of course, we would have to get authorisation from admins if we were to set up links from the site to our league or set up forums about it.

 • Well, I took your idea to mean that you wanted an officially sanctioned announcement about this deal. I guess we can´t stop you from doing this but it would be the polite thing to do to inlist BP´s aid. Pardon me, I am all for this. Glock36 "No Comment"
