Crashing my own server...?

  • What are the specs of your comp? It could be that it takes up too much resources for you to run the game, have the server in the background, and run others on it too.....

  • usually a resource problem but it is also inherent to the game I´ve had it happen a few times myself , running a server on my own PC and LAN works fine with the client running on the server , if i open it to the internet the client crashes the server. It is probably in the way the server handles the connections , haven´t had time to hang a sniffer on the connection to find out what is going on , when I do I´ll let you know Time is too short to hate everybody , just hate a few

I know you have to remove the refrigerator door when placing it at the curb , but then the neighbours kid would get away for sure , damn moral dillema`s

  • Happened to me a few times <img src=smilies/icon_smile_sad.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>

  • Pretty sure it´s not a resource problem. Here´s my pc specs: 2.4GHz processor 512MB PC 1066 RAM Radeon 9700 video card It must be some other conflict. Please tell me there is a solution for this. It seems ridiculous that this kind of a bug would exist (or rather, STILL exist). Help? Anyone? Wap

  • This may or may not apply but then you decide. I play FL on my main ´puter and have flserver on another ´puter on the same home network. I have noticed the first time I look at the global server list which should display both internet and LAN servers my server hsows up as a LAN server. I can then play the server that way while everyone else is and internet player but the stability is something to be desired. It is not happening all the time but occasionally (one in three times) I get kicked off, get lag, etc. I also noticed when I back up to the main menu and then back to the internet/LAN server list (with or without a FL restart), my server is no longer a LAN server. I never have problems then except from other issues (modders, etc.). I get my server as a LAN server only the first time I do FL after a reboot of the FL ´puter. Did you apply the patch to the FL game, client-side? Never do as it is basically a server-side only fix. A lot of strange things happened when people apply them client-side. --------------- Earendil SysAdmin of Boston Freelancer server

  • I only have one computer, and I run a persistent server and my client on the same machine, obviously. I installed the patch because I heard it would make the server more stable. I´m a little confused by your suggestion that I could have installed the patch on the server and NOT on the client. I only have one copy of Freelancer running on my computer. I use FLserver to run the server and FL to run the game. Would it have even been possible to apply the patch ONLY to the server? How would I have done this? You have confused me. Wap

  • There are options when the FL disk is autorun to install FL or install the server files. If you installed both on one ´puter, it´s possible they are &quot;close&quot; together. The quotes are because I don´t know how the patch, when installed, interprets &quot;close&quot;. It is possible that if the flserver install isn´t seperate enough from the FL install, that the files the patch installed or changed may effect the FL install as well. One way to check this out is to start again. First save your MP acct ID and rename the FL directory under My Games. Uninstall everything, FL and flserver. Reinstall just flserver, apply patch. Then reinstall FL in a seperate directory from flserver. Reapply the MP acct ID and rename the directory back under My Games. This may or may not work as the problems potentially from the v1.1 patch may be due to entries by the patch in the registry (just hope they are not). Also you don´t need the patch if you don´t care about the extra cheat protection. Course all this assumes that the problem is due to the patch as applied to a FL (client-side) install. Sorry to confuse you... --------------- Earendil SysAdmin of Boston Freelancer server
