Lancers Reactor site news and feedback request, please!

    From what I read bakedpotato was asking what the community what they would like to have in the way of adding more content and improvements to the site and is asking to give those suggestions here. What does being an admin have to do with allowing you to make those suggestions here? Anyone can write down their thoughts here, you don't see something like that on many sites so that tells me that these people care about the community.


    I have to ask you if you get off on misery, pain and suffering?


    It sure seems like it to me with your comments, all of which are negative, without any suggestions as to what you would like to see added in the way of content or what you think should be fixed or changed.
    Seems to me you have been a member of the Freelancer community since the beginning and are one of the top mod makers. Why not help people and try to make them feel good about themselves as bakedpotato does instead of trying to cause pain and suffering wherever you go.


    Just my opinion of what I see. And yes, I have been coming here on and off for a long time, this is my first post, I just had to say something after reading this, it made me wonder where some people are coming from and what their intentions are, as in trying to bring everyone down.
    And I hope this site and community come back to its excellent condition as it was about a year ago.

    I come from the lancer community and am member of it since more than 9 years. I am admin of one of the few remaining big lancer sites on the net. I have spent the past 9 years to support the lancer community including TLR. My negativity comes from what certain TLR staff members have done and still do to the lancer community. Stuff like hacking other FL sites and servers, stuff like directing member to animal porn sites, stuff like banning members for no real reasons while the staff members break the rules, stuff like using fake chars on other forums, stuff like stealing site scripts from other FL sites.


    Stuff like threatening with bans if a member of this community does post his feedback based on the actual state of the site in an absolutly normal way.


    I can not see anything negative when somebody does say that the site is insecure... or the site does look rubbish and almost 20 years old. This is something the admin team could work on and has nothing to do with something negative. That are simple critics that should be used to improve this community.
    But maybe anything else than "your site looks cool" is too much for some peoples egos here.


    If you can not stand other peoples oppinions then dont open threads asking for those.
    You want suggestions for the site?
    how about those:
    -The TLR staff should finally stick to their own rules instead of laying them out like they want
    -The TLR staff should finally play with open cards
    -The TLR staff should maybe accept that not every oppinion about the site is good (and believe me as ex-TLR admin and someone who has build up many other sites including ones which won web awards I know what im talking about)

    You say staff, does that include bakedpotato?
    It seems to me that after bp disappeared off the planet for whatever reason, he's back now and just as before he's trying to improve things. I can't imagine how much time he puts into the community let alone effort.


    I wouldn't know about the things you mentioned, you may be right, I don't know nor do I care. It's the future of the community and the site that should matter to us and you more than anyone, as you said you've been involved for 9 years and to make comments like you do don't make sense to me and probably not to everyone else either.


    If you feel the way you do why continue to try and bring things down instead of help build them up. Your feedback would be much more valuable if you were to answer questions, especially about modding and other Freelancer related questions since you are an expert at it.


    Take a look at yourself and don't worry about others, people form their own opinions and it appears you don't care what they think of you. My opinion is that you forget to take your medication.
    I'm sure you're not as miserable as you appear to be. Do something that makes you happy and maybe you'll feel better.
    Maybe go into the modding forum and answer some questions, that will help the community, not tear it apart.


    And just so you know, I'm female so you're getting a woman's point of view.

    you noticed that its about the FL community and the people which play this game but you seem to fail to see that the FL community is bigger than TLR and that the actions of the TLR staff (bp excluded) in the past 1 1/2 has caused heavy damage to the FL community and other FL sites. Why in gods name should I believe that now that bp is back the situation would chance when the trouble makers are still here and still acting in the same way they did before? BP is not the TLR owner anymore. He is just the guy doing the work atm. The work horse. He has no real authority. If the current site owner all of a sudden gets angry over something he could pull the plug at any time. And believe me he did this often enough in the past.
    If Mr. Azza wants to hack the next FL site then BP wont be able to stop him.


    The TLR staff (BP excluded) didnt do much for the FL community in the past 1 1/2 (except the attacks against other FL communities). The other FL communities worked together to keep the game running while TLR got excluded from every FL community related project. Guess where all the other modders, coders and server admins are. They did not leave FL. They just joined other communities. I guess they must have had a good reason to do this - right?


    Please tell me how the situation ever should change if the other FL communities (which meanwhile are more active and contain more valueable information than TLR) can not trust TLR because of its staff (BP excluded again).


    Oh and I help with modding questions... but like I said TLR is not the only FL community where people try to keep FL running.


    With one thing you are right - I should think about something positive:
    BP being owner of TLR again and at least 3 of the other Staff members leaving so the FL community finally can find peace again. Guess what... if that dream ever comes true I would send every of my modders and coder to TLR to help with whatever needs to be done.

    Now you're starting to make sense and you appear not to be such a bad guy after all.


    I wasn't aware of the current situation but nobody should have to go it alone, I'm sure bp appreciates the help he is getting and would take any offers of help he can get.
    As was stated in the original post that started this conversation, Azza is fixing everything that bp throws at him and without complaint.
    That tells me that what happened in the past should be forgotten and forgiven and help to make Lancers Reactor the great community hub it once was.

    You're right, my gender shouldn't make a difference, I just though you should know what a female's opinion was because I'm sure that I am outnumbered by a big ratio but I do love to play Freelancer and I enjoy coming here to read the forums and check the news to see if there's anything new and exciting to check out.


    Please reconsider your feelings OP-R8R, the community needs members like you with all your knowledge and skills.

    This above quote was the primary reason I asked FD to delete all my posts advertising FW:ToW. It's also the reason why you lost a lot of good FL modders, like Gibbon. I never once saw a huge apology or repercussions to the people that thought this was a good idea. I had a few friends, with children in their lap, at the time, come to this site and see that horrific method of "protest". BP, you asked how can an inanimate object, such as this website, can harm people? It's not about the site, it's about the people that run it. Their actions, decisions and choices have a profound impact on others in our dwindling community.


    That being said, I have been taken notice of what BP is trying to do here and have been quite impressed. It's nice to see two Admins here, Final Day being the other, take some initiative in trying to improve the site, its reputation and image the general FL community. I don't mind the look of the site as much as OP, but, I'm less picky. I think it looks reminiscent to the old TLR, which, I think is a good thing; plays into the nostalgic factor. I also find the site a bit lacking in active modders. From what I've seen, the majority of the post at The Starport, instead.


    So, how can you improve things here:
    - I'd get a few more experience modders combing this site more often to field more of the newbie modder questions. I see many questions that go unanswered or just simply get answered wrong.
    - Maybe allow different skins so people can choose the way they want
    - Repercussions to the individuals involved it that "bestiality protest" and a big apology to the FL community once more


    If you can do the above things, I'd be more inclined to come here, answer questions of the general newbie modder, as well as recommend to my community to use this site. But, first and foremost, I'll only think about helping out TLR if there is some huge apologies and consequences to the individuals involved with that terrible act, instead of being swept under the rug like it currently is. As an Admin over at the Freeworlds Community, I'd resign my position immediately if I ever pulled the same stunt that was pulled at TLR.

    I cannot speak for anyone other than myself.
    At least some people took the time, effort and money it takes to keep a website this large up and running.


    If it helps in anyway, I apologize for what went down and any inappropriate actions or behavior.
    In a way it's my fault for taking a job on the other side of the planet with little or no internet access as we were working out in the middle of one of the most remote jungles on earth.


    The current situation does not allow me to do as I please, actually it never did, I've always tried to remain neutral and to the best of my abilities work with everyone in an equal, unbiased way.


    All I can do is try and help rebuild a community and website where everyone is welcome and I do mean everyone without prejudice.


    If your past experiences were unacceptable and you felt it was best to move on, I'm truly sorry for that, I can only hope that we can all get together again, at least for a little chit chat, as I made some great friends from all around the world here and gained an incredible amount of knowledge about life in general.

    personally I think it's appalling when those members and contributors with axes to grind go tarring BP and Mental with the same brush when other people outside of their control start vandalising the site. I was shocked at the p0rn incident but even more horrified at the way certain people immediately started sticking the boot in. Very unfair - there wouldn't even be a TLR if it wasn't for BP and latterly Mental.


    I get really annoyed when people start accusing TLR of being some evil rapacious monster site with a dark hidden agenda. Have you heard yourselves? Some people watch far too much television and need to get out more.


    I think that this topic should be in a section of it's own, we come to OT to get away from all this sort of stuff and tbh I really don't want to read about modders having a go at each other or why the site doesn't meet their impeccably high standards. Too much testerone behind those keyboards, boys!



    Your right about testerone behind the keyboards, i just wished everybody could get along,as i see it there shouldn't be any bashing of any kind, it's one thing to joke or do a little ribbing,and another to start bashing as if someone has a problem they can pm the admins and talk to them in person, but i did mean what i said as in the site needs all it's people and the experianced people are a vauable aset to this forum,and all modders,and players and starmans right also so seee weee agreee you old lane hopper sure glad you took the soap box hehehe ;)

    it's been my experience that modders don't necessarily make good admins or moderators - some do, and they're very good at it, but the majority don't. Unf as most people on games forums esp an aged game like TL are modders then it limits the spread of people to choose from and unfortunately many come at this with their own issues and agendas already in place. TLR is far from unique in this respect.


    Having said that, it's a rotten task, thankless and you can never please everyone and there's always someone telling you what you did wrong. If as many people offered support or help as stick the knife in, things would be a lot better.


    Then there's the egos and neuroses and lack of perspective. Everyone's problem is always important - to them; unfortunately it may not be quiet so pressing in the grand scheme of things. This is something many people forget in the heat of typing out a moan. Unfortunately the perceived anonymity of interweb means that many people behave in a manner that they never would "in real life" which I find rather cowardly and mealy-mouthed myself.


    soothing teenage egos is just about the last thing I want to do for relaxation, having teenagers of my own. Some of you moaners are lucky that BP and Mental even give you the opportunity to have a go, because I wouldn't. Left to me, adolescent whinings would be in the dustbin of deletion and you would not get the oxygen of publicity but BP and Mental are decent fair-minded guys who listen - on most community sites you would not be able to say the things that you say.


    Were TLR ever to fall under the blessings of Tawakalni rule, anyone with names that suggest a colour link with avian life forms would be immediately banned, as would anyone of a hiruste facial nature who lives in a "shack" in the forest. However people who sell and recommend comfy mattresses that give me a good night's sleep after years of pain and discomfort are perfectly welcome (thanks Rich, best buy I ever made!)

    I could post tons of pics and chatlogs showing Azza, Knife and mental and what they have done to others, what they have said about the FL community and what they have said about TLR and its members.


    Its not that we have no idea whats going on. I am member in all major FL communities and visit/contribute there on a daily base.
    It is not that we people make claims in the category "this did not happen". Everything has its proof and everything has its witnesses. If somebody is really interested to see that stuff I can upload it again.
    It might be true that the past is the past... but I worry more that the future is becoming just like the past was and as long you ignore the past and dont learn from it you faced with that risk at every day.


    Nobody wants to take away your TLR. That never was the case.
    Nobody wants to damage your TLR.
    If somebody really would have wanted to do this TLR would be in serious trouble now (simply because of broken laws).


    The only neccessary element in getting TLR integrated back into the remaining FL community is a trustworthy staff. And you would be surprised how many of the old members would return if that element is granted.

    Since you seem to want to go there. . . I'm here, I noticed that this topic was suppose to be uplifting ideas and thoughts, and we know that cant happen with you around, LoL thats obvious!


    And as far as it goes for the so called trouble makers here, if it was not for us there would be no TLR, I don't recall you helping. And again. . . get your facts straight before you throw accusations, BP is not the only one working hard on the site, azza has spent pretty much everyday working on this site, with no help from you or anyone else!


    You of all ppl should know that just because you don't see things change daily does not mean ppl are not working behind the scenes, Mr. I've won awards.     Feedback for the site? Glad to see that the downloads are searchable by partial names and not just full names - which is great thanks :D I like the fact the main page shows only a certain number of news posts - with my only critique being that it'd be a tad bit nicer (in my view) to have a lil indent on the text inside the main news text posts - so its not sat on the lines!


    Overall it looks fine, responsive and functional :ugeek:


    Keith - I'll see if I can spare some time to provide a few details about the odd thing when I can, but time is tight and I'd have to download them all.
    In another topic you ask about Giskard: he hasn't been on the Egosoft forum for over a year (although I don't frequent it often either), and his website is now down (respawn.co.uk). He made mods for other games, but got disheartened as he received abuse from players of the mods. Always liked him, was a huge help when I first arrived - along with Accushot, Wanderer and Victor. Lost contact with Accushot these days too - oh well, C'est la vie.

I've changed a lot in recent years, Harrier's passing impacted upon how to view "usernames" (as people, not abstract usernames you can joust with irrespective of their feelings)


    So Bon Voyage from me, all the best to everyone's future, and I hope TLR starts to thrive again and people may enjoy Freelancer for many years to come.

    As to things regarding site content etc., I believe Azza and I had a brief convo a while back regarding music in some fashion or other, such as weps fire when mouse hovering over links, or maybe even an option to turn some background music on/off. I don't know how involved such things are (I can barely write an HTML doc or Java program to save my life) but maybe it's worth considering? Just a thought from a guy who likes music :)
