Windows Question

xp all the way. one thing with xp is you can make changes to a mod you are working on and not worry about it being write protected. you dont have give everything admin status.
-
And Vista makes games take up more space. A 500 mb ram game for xp is like a gb on Vista
-
i will tell you one thing the enhanced video driver i got and sound driver i have with the vista make up for all the down falls . im just lucky i have two machines a vista and xp.

Vista is suited for new games and high-end computers.
There often are problems with older games and Vista.
For older games like Freelancer you should use Windows XP.
Of course, a Windows XP with newest graphic/chip and sound drivers works as good as Vista with new games, but sometimes special effects on newest games are restricted to Vista.
For myself I prefer XP all the way. -
yeah i have both i run my server off xp and play on vista. with the vista i have mod freelancer on my backup drive and have to keep transferring data back and forth. but graphics and sound my xp machine cant come close.

xp/vista = regular or unleaded gas lol.if u use laptop max memory 4gb and desktop is 8gb max for vista. for xp cut those numbers in half respectively i dont miss xp that much but it depends what im doing too.security wise vista has better security and networking capablities than xp,but that is opinon, other will/may disagree with me,also better sound options than xp, but then again depends what's under the hood or lack thereof
-
I've used XP all my life (I didn't know how to use a computer when XP wasn't made yet  ).
-
well recent changes service pack 2 for vista and most stuff is working macafee and vista, avg vista all work with freelancer now

I recomend still windows Xp pro SP3 for games.
Xp pro is capable to use dual core, wich on newer games are recomended.
Vista still has to many bugs and exploits, even if you have vista ultimate.
Vista asks alot of your hardware when XP can do same, with 1/2 of vista. So basicly it swallosw speed, HD space, and ram alot.still if you want to upgrade your OS, then better go for WIN 7, who seems to be more stable, less needed for same achievments.

Vista is a load of crap. :x
The best operating systems for Freelancer are Windows 2000 and XP/XP Pro. I tried running FL on Vista and I had type bouncing all over the screen. I even had a souped-up Mac Pro running Parallels Desktop and when I ran the game in Vista, the same thing happened, and I especially hated upgrading my ship because you had a hard time reading the menu. They say Windows 7 is supposed to be good and I tried the beta version. We'll see what the final product yields, but in the meantime it's XP Pro or XP.

I use XP Pro

If it's any comfort to anyone, Microsoft says that it will continue to support Windows XP until 2020. Will Microsoft be around by then? I know I will, I wanna see my daughter graduate from college.

I strongly urge anyone using Vista (who has problems with it) to get Win 7. I used the Beta until license expired July 1st, and reverted back to Vista @ that time. The AV programs I was using that allowed FL to run and connect to servers previously on Vista were updated in that 6 month interim, and when I went back to Vista I was unable to connect to servers with AV installed
SO, I got the Win 7 RC and guess what? NO problems!!http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... nload.aspx
You can get the Win 7 Release Clienthttp://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/Vista.htm
You would need an ISO recorder that works w/Vista to make Bootable Install DVD
I don't have any reason to use Vista anymore, and I'll actaully buy Win 7 when it is released October 22. The Release Client of Windows 7 works rather well and can be used going forward into 2010. If one chooses to install this RC, remember to Back up all your stuff, and for that matter you could also create a dual-boot (install on separate partition while leaving Vista intact). If anyone needs help with any of this, post back or send me a PM. Later folks,

I'm getting a new, better laptop soon, will try to see if I can get Win 7 on it, does Win 7 do any good with Freelancer?
-
according to the gunei pig[LANCERWARRIOR] it does, also i think it works with all av programs except avg.
-
I already have my eyes set on a very nice computer, can't wait to get it in February, and it's hooked up with Windows 7 .

I tried using Windows 7 Ultimate with Freelancer (it's the wife's program). It was stable for the most part, but when I go in to get repairs or parts, the type bounces all over the screen, just like Vista. :x
I'm holding on XP Pro, I'll use Windows 7 for other non-Freelancer stuff.
