• hey i like that idea until u starded rambling abotu selling at a cretain time just the commodies that can only be mined i like heres another idea: having a special mining cargo pod that u can mine in gas fields with. hey i should make my own topic! • Guys. Lighten up. He´s at least TRYING to be original, seeing how most of you tend to jump down people´s throats for posting old stuff. Relax. Let other people post, if you don´t like the thread, huh? Der Käse! Der Käse! Er singt traurig um Mitternacht! (http://www.dictionary.com for a translator program)

 • I would like the game to have some REAL mining aspects, shooting random flying rocks is rather lame, although fun. How about something like what was in Frontier: Elite 2 and First Encounters, where you could buy a mining probe and launch it at asteroids, then come back later and see what it had harvested. Or, it could have large Asteroids that you could land on and mine, provided you had mining equiptment. Also, have the really cheap stuff easily accessable, but have the really good stuff (diamonds, gold, minerals, stuff like that) in hard to reach places, so that you might even require escorts (in MP) to protect you while your mining. Anyone else got some ideas that would make mining much more rewarding and complex?

 • << too bad mining isn´t more profitable >> I´m still trying to figure out how blasting an ice asteroid with your lasers turns it into a cargo container full of water. p.s. If there were some rare and valuable mineral or whatever, it would (1) have to be only in some unknown and hard to find location and (2) would have to be guarded by some real nasties, like Nomads in super ships. Need to make getting it a real challenge.

 • Stick the commoditty in the back of the alpha unknown system and increase the Nomads that show up there from 4 to say 12. Think that would make it pretty darn hard. Or if you want to use a frieghter(I wouldn´t want to fight nomads in a freighter) you could possibly add a new faction who basically just guards this area and have weapons inbetween those of Nomads and everyone else. ~ DaVoid, Expert Star Diver

 • don´t be so hard on the guy....its a good idea...not original though (sorry)...but a good idea. this sort of thing happened a lot in elite in the later stages of ranking. there was the occasional commodity that would crop up as being entirely new, but everybody seemed to want a bit of it, usually alien organisms. also in elite they had "radioactives" which were a bi-product of your military hyperspeed drives...to get from system to system (to trade) you would need obviously to make a jump, but when you do your drive would leave radioactives in your precious cargo space. they had a negative value for sale (ie. you´d have to pay someone to take them away) and it was illegal to dump them mid-space, so it could ruin your reputation with the police. So basically you were stuck with them and had to bare them in mind when filling your cargo hold - but its stuff like that which made the game that little bit more real ya know? fantastic concepts considering how old the game is....why oh why do developers not look back at what it made so great?

 • Ok, I think there are a few people here who need to lighten up. My post was an attempt to just start up a new thread and MABYE make it a little fun or humorous at the same time. Apparently there are some "die hard" forum fans who have the strictest of rules when it comes to posting. render - "don´t do this again"???? Do what? Post a topic? Try to start a discussion about a possible new aspect of the game? What´s your problem? Please explain exactly what it is you don´t want me to do. Nickless - You say I am "trying too hard". Trying too hard to do what? I wasn´t TRYING to do anything. I was posting a new thread and I thought I´d add a little humor at the same time. You also say "wait until you have something original to post and THEN post it." What the hell do you think I just did? Oh wait, I forgot, there are a bunch of FL "pros" who insist we all perform a thorough search of the archives before using any topic, idea, question, or word that has EVER been used in the forum before. Sorry, but I didn´t feel like running a search with the keywords "mining" and "commodities", and then sifting through the 12 million hits. I really think people need to relax. A forum is a place where people can discuss their thoughts, ideas, questions, etc. Obviously we want people to check out previous threads for the really common questions and such, but let´s be realistic. Here´s my suggestion; for those "veterans" who have already read and re-read ever possible thread topic in Freelancer existance, stop coming to the forum. You make it obvious that there will never be anything new here for you to read, so stop reading and let the rest of us post our thoughts without being worried about getting flamed and slammed. The thread topic was meant to be a joke. My original post was meant to be humorous and at the same time bring up a suggestion/idea for the game. And from the looks of it, most people enjoyed the idea and discussed it. Gee, sounds kinda like a forum to me. Render and Nickless, I can appreciate how annoying it is when the same topic is posted over and over and over. But let´s try to show a LITTLE understanding. Don´t we WANT to increase interest in Freelancer? Don´t we WANT to get a larger fan base? Anyway, no hard feelings, just maybe think a bit before you decide to instantly attack someone. And maybe try to read between the lines and see the sarcasm in the post. Wap

 • Wap: I guess you´re right. Sorry about that, I sometimes forget I´ve been here to long, especially at 30 past midnight I failed to see the sarcasm...I gues I forgot how much fun it is to think of something original and discuss it with others. I promise I´ll lay of the ranting. • Well for what its worth, I say thats a great idea! In rebalance 3 for example, there are pirate escape pods... worth 10k at some places... possibly more elsewhere. Very rare tho. It is quite nice to get one. And as to people half flaming your post, It is so utterly true that I don´t mind at all. perhaps im a cinic Hey look! • Another thing that occurs to me about commodities - all the prices are static, which is unrealistic. Though it shouldn´t be random, there should be some price fluctuations, with news stories about "Drought!! Manhattan needs water!!" And so on... if you´re sharp, you´ll see great opportunities to make money. Der Käse! Der Käse! Er singt traurig um Mitternacht! • Fluctuating commodity prices would be awesome. I´m pretty sure it was part of the original game design, but got left in the dust, probably due to Microsoft´s "ship it now" policy. I´d also like to see and actually limit to the commodity quantities at planets and bases. That would hugely affect commodity prices. Once a base runs out of H-Fuel, then it´s out of base fuel until someone starts shipping more there. As a base runs out of a particular commodity, the price would start to increase, and vice-versa. Basic supply and demand. And the longer a particular commodity sits at a base without being bought at all, the lower the price gets. Again, it´s one of those things that seems like it would have been dead simple to program into the game, but it´s usually the simple-seeming things that require the most work. It really is too bad Freelancer got rushed out the door when it did. Hey mabye we can convince Microsoft to give us the source code. Maybe if we ask real nice. Say please and promise to be their best friend or something. Wap

 • Speaking of fuel, that would be another thing to add some zing to the program - having to keep an eye on your ship´s fuel as you´re out flying around. I also think that there´d be docking fees for landing at planets and on stations, as well as fees for using the trade lanes. I´m sure those things cost a hell of a lot of money to build, and no government I´m aware of was ever quite that generous. With shipping as it is, no matter where you dock a ship, you have to pay mooring fees and usually dock fees, as well. Instituting such costs into the game will make you think harder about what route you take and where you land... Der Käse! Der Käse! Er singt traurig um Mitternacht! • The whole commodity thing has given me another idea. What about a Freelancer Stock Market? Based on the trading of commodities, there could be an opportunity for Freelancers to purchase and sell stock in certain commodities. And not only commodities, but stock in factions aswell, like Miners Guilds and Trade factions. Obviously it would take considerable programming and algorithms to handle such a thing, but it would add a cool element to the FL universe and give one more "career" for budding freelancers to try. Using the fees for trade lane usage, one could buy stock in a particular trade route and then the price of that stock would fluctuate as that route is used more or less. One could do all kinds of things with the economics of this game...banks, loans, betting, stocks, term deposits, etc, etc, etc. We need that source code... Wap

 • Very Good Ideas. I like this Thread. I hope some of the more Exp. modders could get together and come up with this Awsome Idea. That would really give this game some depth(not that it doesn´t already have depth). I like tradelane and docking fees, and fluctuating(SP) commods(supply and demand). I can see it now "Rebalence 4.5; Docking fees, tradelane fees, Supply and demand economy, and last but not least, a huge ship pack" That would bring a big smile to me.
