The 1st expedition doesn´t know about the 2nd expedition! so they think they´re discovering something new...yea, thatd be weird

if the planet is 500.000 lightyears away, and the first expedition doesn´t have an FTL drive, it will take them over 500.000 years to get there... so if 100 years later an expedition is sent, there won´t be a forgotten colony there, because the colonist are still on their way...

That would mean that we had forgotten out history, but the first ship would take quite a while to get across 500000 lightyears and a FTL ship could be built before it even got there. So they really would be aliens! And than we´d live in peace for a while, but they were really nurotic and wanted to destroy us from the onset. Sad really. I see where you´re going with this... by the time the original expedition arrives at the far-away planet, the second expedition´s been there for ages. Human development being what it is, there would be very significant cultural and linguistic differences, as well as possible evolution/mutations in the gene pool. If you can´t read this, then you´re probably illiterate and have no idea what I´m saying anyway.

How about if the first expedition got there before the second expedition but a third expedition was sent out before the second expedition and got there after the first expedition but then the second expedition got there before the first expedition but then the third expedition came and the first expedition wasnt there. heh, nah, how about if the first expedition had EVOLVED differently to adapt to the new planet, and the second expedition thought that these evolved thingies were aliens and possible destroyed the first expedition.
