Potassium Permaganate

    I remember it being an at least part of an explosive from my pyromaniac days (not one I personally tried but read about). There´s also the old glycerin and potassium permanganate experiment that would produce a small but fierce flame, no oxygen is produced in that reaction though.

    I know what permaganate is but what is potassium? Please post the right formula here.     Pot Mang is an oxidising agent, and you are probs thinking of this being used as a catalyst in the reaction with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) which yields oxygen. It would work, but also be a highly inefficient way of getting pure oxygen. Not sure how industry goes about it, but probs the hydrolysis of water...as it would yield oxygen and hydrogen ....which i would bet is how nasa do it for their rocket fuel (liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen).     Potassium is only potassium in America, I think, and a few choice other areas. That´s why it´s symbol is K - for Kalium (or whatever it is in Latin...) I agree with Chip. Water hydrolysis would be better than potassium permanganate. Do as you wish; I will not give up.

    Er..... electrolysis.
