cap ship comp

 • I want to post these images I have so badly! I don´t want to discourage any modelers out there though... That 24-bit texturing looks really great for detailing on the ships I am using if anyone wants to see a good example of it just e-mail me. Everyone keep up to good work! Edited by - Fuzzball on 11/25/00 10:09:42 PM

 • Damn, all these cap ships are looking so damn good. Its gonnaa be a close competition. --------------------- If I wanted smoke blown up my ass, I´d be at home with a pack of cigarettes and a short length of hose.

 • Pirate - cool ships, but what is your polygon count? Some of those have to be over 2000? You may have to reduce the count before importing into StarLancer. You should be able to find textures specfically for the Minbari Crusier at one of the B5 mod sites. Bargib - are starbases allowed as "capships". I am talking like a starbase big enough to fit 2 Midway class carriers in between its struts Alright, I can´t take it any more! Here are some of my pics: (but I have other vessels and at least on base under construction as well ) <img src=´http://home.inreach.com/dwevans/confed/midway1.jpg ´> <img src=´http://home.inreach.com/dwevans/confed/midway2.jpg ´> <img src=´http://home.inreach.com/dwevans/confed/midway3.jpg ´> <img src=´http://home.inreach.com/dwevans/confed/midway4.jpg ´> <img src=´http://home.inreach.com/dwevans/confed/hyp_1.jpg ´> <img src=´http://home.inreach.com/dwevans/confed/hyp_2.jpg ´>

 • could somebody help me with the textures???? I may disagree with your opininions you but I would die to protect your right to have thoose opininions

 • OK here it goes: The rules are as follows: Everyone need to submit the models, they want to participate with, to my email at christian@koerner.dk. Each model must be inside it´s own ZIP-file, including textures and a readme. Also at least two different screenshots showing the model must be included. Models must be of cap-ships or space stations or other larger space-installations. No fighter-type models will be accepted. A person can participate with as many models as he likes! The readme should include any information on the source of the model and textures, if they are converted or otherwise from a person, who is not the submitter. If we find that there are missing references to any contributer, that model and the submitter are disqualified from the competition. Wouldn´t want to steal things! The readme should also include a short description of the model, it´s name and it´s origin, if it is from some series, movie or game. A submitter must also clearly indicate which category the model is competing in: A. Original Model B. Conversion Category A now covers both original designs, and models made from the ground up after some other artistic source. For instance the work with recreating the Star Trek Enterprises, with new textures and models would qualify for this category. The submitter must be the person who created the model. The main prize in this category is a by Chris Roberts signed Starlancer game and a bunch of collectibles. Category B covers all kind of conversions and models with new textures. Also here the main prize is a Starlancer game signed by Chris Roberts. The models must be recieved by me no later than December 3rd at 8:00 pm Central European Time. I should then by around Wedensday 6th December have the poll ready, and the poll will conclude Sunday December 10th. After this, the judges (Hellcat, ElectricBrain, Blitzkrieg, HCl, WC Karab and myself) will select the winners in the top 3 models in each category. I will be monitoring and tracking the votes and polls for any cheating! Winners will then be announced on around Friday December 15th. I´ll e-mail the winners for postal addresses, and the snail mail the prizes as quickly as possible after getting the replies. But please notice this: I will, and can not take any responsibility for any taxes and/or duties put on the prizes by the authorities in you country. Though with the worth of these prizes it should hopefully be a non-issue. Good luck! Best Regards Christian "Bargib" Koerner Editor in Chief, The Lancers Reactor

 • Gag - These are essentially still fighters. I sized up the Midway in SL Tool and then I went into the hog editor in SL Edit, found Rus_Kurgan.shp, changed renamed its entry, and then put the midway in the ships folder with the name Rus_Kurgan.shp and flew a mission with a Kurgan in it. You can do all of this (except textures) with 1.0 You can´t get very close to the model though, because it is still a fighter and the collision structures are much different - each one has a huge spherical shield. I am using 24-bit / 16-bit textures for some detailing also (bug plasma weapon) which is only supported in the newest version of SL Edit.

 • All these Cap Ships are great, honest. Here is the problem I am seeing tho. Looks like most people are designing with WAY too many polys. You guys really need to think about that cause when there are about 20 ships all flying around and the cap ships are all 2k polys, well, can we say CRASH! Look at the games Min Requirements and try to remember that most people playing this game and enjoying your newly made ships dont have 1.5gighz computers with a 64bit video card =) Keep it around 750. If you can then you need to be modeling for Quake3 or something. Cause its not just design, its playablity. thnx. sounds bitchy but its not..
