Got an invite, took a look at the download page and decided I´m not interested.
Google Talk

Looks interesting. I´ve downloaded it, but I´m waiting for enough friends to jump on the bandwagon before giving it a solid testing.
-
Google Earth is a wonderful idea but i´m not interested in any more messenger programmes, hell i avoid people like the plague as it is! why do I want more ways for people to bug me and send me rubbish?
-
Google is also planning other things, such as a parallel internet. Just read it on "/.".

Google earth sucks, they can´t even place my own home village in the correct spot.
-
no i told them to do that, i was trying to help you avoid your income tax. besdies i wanted it a few miles north and east.. in the water...

Google talk is ok, but i don´t reccomend it as your primary IM. Google Earth is marvalous. Its amazing how many satalite pictures they´ve gotten in there. And do you think thats EASY? I´m amazed at what they have acheived, I located my friend´s house in australia, and i live in Washington

you can even see the Tawmobile outside Taw Towers and the wife´s car round the back and the washing on the line (just about) - Tawakalnistan is in high-res. howver it is the old Tawmobile not the new Tawmobile so the pics at least 6 months old.
-
well, if you look up Anna Pauwlowna, you will notice it has been fixed into an empty space of farmland.
-
hang on a minute, its there! i can see it quite clearly between the Lagedijk and the railway to den Helder port. what are you rattling about? and there is a big empty bit (or always was) in the SW corner by the Grasweg. looks fine to me. Edited by - Tawakalna (Reloaded) on 8/29/2005 1:25:50 PM

Google is doing its best. There aren´t high-res satilite photos for every inch of the world. What they have achieved is amazing in its own right.
-
Will have to check out Google Earth - although online mapping sites (use them to find locations etc) showed sat pics "overlaying" the OS Map image when you "rolled" your mouse over it. I therefore assume others have access to the same images that Google are using?
-
Google is using public information. They don´t own a satilite or anything of that sort. Google earth is just a massive collection of public knowledge neatly organized.
-
So really its just marketing, seeing as its already there before - just no-one bothered to look for it.
-
no its not just marketing. its really easy to use and presents global information in an immediately accessible format. no mucking about scrolling from map-to-map, its just *there* - 3d-terrain, 3d-buildings, roads, railways, borders, all sorts of public information, sort of like a super 3d world autoroute. i love it, i spend hours on it. im doing an overlay for all the main archaeological sites in the Middle East - Assyria, Babylonia, Persia, Hellenistic, Roman blah blah blah. You should see Babylon, its enormous! so is Ur, the Ziggurat is very impressive. then there´s places like Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, thats enormous. My daughter showed me all the places in Leningrad (St Petersburg) she´d been to recently. and you can tilt the map up and get angled and horizontal views - fly over a high-res area at about 5000 feet and you can see everything in stunning detail. the resolution is better than M$ Flight Sim Virtual Photographic Scenery. you can virtually drop down to street level in high-res cities and move around the streets (and plot routes etc) so they stick some ads in and links to businesses. so what? its a joy to use and I dont resent a few ads for summat thats completely free and gives me so much pleasure. go Google Earth.
-
unfortunatley, its not all high res, but large chunks of the planet are.
-
@Taw, sure its there, but they stick the AP marker right in a bit of farmland Next to schagen, about 10 miles south of the actual position, you know where it is, because youve been there, another man who has never been in the area, let alone country, migh

oh yeh sorry see what you mean now. 4.93 miles akshuly. oh well, i dare say you´d enjoy living in a field for a while! I´m sure they´ll put it right. eventually.

Blackhole2001 I also live in Washington (state, not city). West half of the state in particular shows how detailed their listings are, down to the remote Mom & Pop burger joins out in the middle of nowhere.

Google Talk = POS. that´s all there is to say.
