X3 goes "Gold"

 • *Considers purchase* Hmmm... Well, tell me what the controls are like when you get the game Chips, because if they are as bad as X2... Oh, and and I would like to see a review of X3 as well. If you don´t post one... *Raises paw*

 • Considering the awesome screenshots, I´m kind´ve surprised there hasn´t been more buzz. But quite honestly, I´m more than a little worried about the performance of this tripped-out game engine... it looks... ah... a wee bit more taxing than HL2, which ground my machine to a bloody pulp until I optimaxed it. I´m planning a major upgrade soon, but still... eek.

 • Beta preview says .... fully supports keyboard/mouse play.... This I like. X3 will make it possible to either play the SP story line or just strike off on your own without it. So OpenSP is built-in? That´s great! *Looks over shoulder to see if wife is checking on my plans to spend money on a new game ... which of course will require major expenditures on a new rig capable of supporting the new graphics .... rubs hands together* Edited by - Indy11 on 10/17/2005 6:58:48 AM

 • Just read on cncden.com how Lion was preparing his new rig:

Of course, I spent about two hours explaining why I needed the extra stuff, then agreed to take her to dinner, buy her new clothes, finish remodeling my office area by Tuesday, and clean the cat litter box for the next 100 years, etc. Whatever works I suppose, hehe.

<font face=´trebuchet ms, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica´ size=2> Good Luck, Indy - tell us what you had to do

 • @zazie.... If it works, I´ll share. If it doesn´t, please understand that I might not want to be very public with my er... "disappointment."

 • All I know is that I´m saving for a decent upgrade. I may have to save another couple of months, at least... bah! Even going cheap on everything but the video card, going 64-bit is going to cost me $1000

 • http://www.tesco.com - search for X3 reunion and you´ll find it available from the 21st of October (or so they say), a whole week before Play.com or other Euro stuff. May cancel order with play to get it from Tesco...

 • I just hope that my PC will run it well, assuming that the issues that I have mentioned before are resolved, and I end up buying it of course . I also found it interesting to note that the controls are being "simplified" in order to allow the ickle Xbox360 gamers to play the game. Compared to the abysmal controls present in X2 this could be a good thing, but I hope that they do not *oversimplify*. "Fable" for example, what the hell´s up with that damn "hold down the ´Control´ key and click to use magic" system? They REALLY should have created separate keys for that, but I digress .

 • Indy - I´ll have you know fella me lad, that Typhon runs HL2 and Doom3 at 1280x960 with good speed at full detail and high detail respectively. Although he is old, I have tweaked the hell out of Typhon , and have overclocked my graphics card. The only problem is my lack of RAM (only 512M which is a bottleneck, but I´m not paying around $100 for another 512MB of DDR-333! Damn cheap MSY RAM that is made up of Samsung chips on a generic PCB *grumble*. ff - Bah, there aren´t enough slots for every spell, and you have to keep swapping items in and out. It becomes annoying after a while.

 • $100? Am I missing something, or is that Canadian. You can get RAM (DDR-333) for much less than that. Maybe a gig will cost you that much, but even then you´re getting ripped off. Then again, maybe things are different in Au-stral-i-a. If I had a dollar for every time I had 80 cents, I´d be Canadia.

 • after i finally decided to look away from what i´m doing and look at X3, i have to say, those are some nice looking ships!

 • Steve - Its supply and demand. DDR400 is cheap, but anything older than that is twice the price because it is allegedly "rarer". Eg. I can pick up some a 512MB DIMM of Kingston DDR333 for $95 AUD, but a 512MB DIMM of Kingston DDR400 is only $55 AUD or so.

 • Ah, but won´t DDR400 work in your system the same. Aren´t both 184-pin, and the only difference being it wouldnt run at its full clock speed? Or am I so confused.
