• Mav, you really went top notch on that baby! I´m waiting for the 1.2 gig T-Bird to come down a bit in price. I think by the summer it should be around us$100. I´m looking at the ABIT k7Raid for the m/b. Concern too about the heatsinks. Are they really that tough to install? "You Can´t Fight in Here, This is The War Room!"

 • Well... I will find out Thursday when I recieve the Motherboard and the Memory from California. Then we will find out how difficult it is to install the heatsinks. Also, Why wait and get a 1.2ghz... I got my 1.1ghz for only $250 U.S. that is very cheap for a processor of that speed. In fact it is the cheapest any cutting edge processor has ever been as far as I can remeber. thats why i bought it. Although you may be right about waiting but... Im impatient... and 250 is nothin compared to what I was prepared to spend on a P4 1.5Ghz. But when I found out that the AMD 1.1ghz could beat it... I bought the 1.1ghz ---- Freelancer or Bust

 • Temptation´s killing me, but I promised myself I´d wait. Price drop´s are inevitable. I still think by summertime the 1 gig and highers will be around us$100. I found a 900 for about us$139 on the web. "You Can´t Fight in Here, This is The War Room!"

 • Just found the 1gig AMD Tbird for us$179. May go below 100 before spring! This is a real test of my patience. I´m usually the "I need it NOW" type. "You Can´t Fight in Here, This is The War Room!"

 • At least 80 bucks. Bad for economy, good for consumer I guess. Now, if only Abit would drop the motherboard price..... At this point the KT7-Raid is holding steady at about us$140. "You Can´t Fight in Here, This is The War Room!"

 • Boscoe, When I was looking for my motherboard... The reviews I saw on the KT7 RAID (my first choice) were all bad! I saw user reviews on it that were mostly 1 out of 5 stars. This is what made me go with the Asus A7V... (the one with ATA-100) The reviews on that one weren´t very bad at all. Although you will need to download some BIOS updates to get the best out of it, Get ´em at the ASUS site. I paid 145 for this motherboard tho... not very cheap at all. ---- Freelancer or Bust

 • Strange, because I found the opposite. At least for the Abit, that is. Ibuyer.net has dozens of user reviews, avg 93 of 100. Also has won several awards from many independant groups. It´s funny you mentioned it though, as the reviews and awards were the primary reason I was thinking of it. (I think AMD also lists it as a recommended board) I also saw lots of good things about the Asus too, but I had an Asus board once, lots of problems. Bad reason, I know, because that was years ago and I may have just gotten a bad board. Both run about 140 us dollars. Anyway, thanks for the heads up. It is strange that there is such divergence on the reviews though. Update: Mav, please know that I appreciate your comments and went back to check more reviews. I´m curious though, because I went back and scoured the reviews and all were singing high praise for the KT7-Raid. Were you maybe reading about the KA7-Raid (for slot A)? Supposedly Abit majorly improved the board for the Socket A. Anyway, just a thought. Again, I do thank you for the heads up. Seems to me, from what I´ve read, that the two boards are equally excellent. The only main difference being the AMR slot (which I don´t have any use for). "You Can´t Fight in Here, This is The War Room!" Edited by - Boscoe on 12/18/00 2:33:22 PM

 • Im not shure weither it was the KT7 or the KA7, Ill tell ya where I got the reviews tho... It was at http://www.motherboard.com but if you scroll down, the reviews get better as time went on... I´m guessing Abit released drivers to fix some of the problems (all motherboards get em) I have already downloaded the A7V drivers and the VIA 4 in 1 drivers to update my board. I am building it tomorrow and the motherboard got here on monday. My only problem Ive had so far is that a heatsink on the VIA chip on the motherboard was only half on. I guess some chinese guy that assembled it didnt push hard enuf on the spring loaded heatsink. So i popped it back in and all is AOK for building. Although the hard drive is supposed to be here today at about 1pm. and im not shure when the memeory will show up. UPS still says it will be here tomorrow. IT BETTER! bah. rofl. Anyways, Both boards run on the exact same VIA KT133 chipset so the boards are fairly similar anyways. ---- Freelancer or Bust

 • That´s gonna be one hell of a system once you get it all together. I´ll probably have something similar to yours within the next few months. Waiting for the price drops and the stock markets to recover some. Saw also the benchmarks for using the RAID 0. I may get another h/d just to take advantage of that. Seems to boost performace by 25-50 % ! Oh well, for the time being it´s just a thought. Soon though, soon..... "You Can´t Fight in Here, This is The War Room!"

 • That is why I upgraded to a new hard disk also. The benches were too much to bear. I got a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 45 30 gig hard disk. Supports UltraATA-100 Yay! And now I am only one part short on my computer... I just opened a UPS Ground shippment from California. My hard disk. All that is left is the Memory which is already fairly close to me. only about 100 miles or so... should be here tomorrow. ---- Freelancer or Bust

 • Rock and Roll!!! I´m curious, I have an ATA 66 hard drive currently. If I set up RAID 0 with another drive at ATA 100, would it still give a significant change in benchmarks? Well, a question to ponder I guess. Seen the stock markets today? UGH!!! Keeps going like this and I´ll join Scup in the "help me upgrade" club...... "You Can´t Fight in Here, This is The War Room!"
