• Warlord = duck´s belly. I mean, dux belli .

  • dunno about that Ed. Dux means duke or military commander and was an actual Roman title, often used for emergencies or temporary expediencies, while Imperator although equated with Emperor and used for that purpose, really means to be invested with the imperatorial power and was only used technically when a definite tract of territory was permanently added to the Republic/Empire, although it became an automatic attribute for the Emperor regardless of whether he actually took part in a campaign or not. hence the Dux Britannarium, Duke of the Britons, was military commander of inland and northern Britannia, while Marcus Licinius Crassus gained his title of Imperator for conquering a stream and a handful of villages. but.. as I remember, foederates and socii kings, princes, etc. could also be granted the title of Dux, so yeh I think you´re right, dux is a better translation of warlord. You clever guy! <note to self: keep an eye on this Indy fellow>

"for once, i`ll actually tell you what i was thinking; but maybe i won`t have anything to say.."

  • Well, I really didn´t go through all that thinking. And at this point it is against interest for me to explain my thinking on it anyway.

  • Perhaps I shall change my name to "Imperator Bob"

  • I wish that they had offered it at my place of primary/secondary education. Still, what can you do? You know what they say; Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur (Trans: "Whatever is said in Latin sounds profound" ) . Edit: Apparently, "Mannus" is Latin for Mustang. Interesting... Edited by - esquilax on 2/18/2004 2:07:01 PM

  • *Doffs hat* Much obliged, old son . I imagine that it will come in handy, because some people around here are incapable of using search engines.

  • Damn! ff saw through my cunning insult! No, he´s getting paranoid. Check that, getting more paranoid . And to remain on topic a Latin message to all of the virus and trojan writers out there; Ne auderis delere orbem rigidum meum! (Trans: Don´t you dare erase my hard disk!) . Edit; Taw, here´s one for you Prehende uxorem meam, sis! (Trans: Take my wife, please!) . • @WLB Imperator Bob is classy. Although I kind of like Dux Belli Bob. It has a nice rhythm to it and reduces to a neater acronym.... DBB as opposed to IB. And, officia

  • Indy - I thought Imperator was Warlord (see Evil Things post) Oh well, perhaps I´ll retire from my violent ways and rule my empire as an emperor some day... <img src=s
