If it´s done away with you´ll get off topic posts in other forums, but people who like to try to follow the rules (like me) will leave. I´m trying to stay civil here, but 19 moderators is too much. I don´t think its so much the fact that it´s overmoderated, although that is a factor, but to me it seems to be the fact that you always seem to be talking to someone above you. I personally do not support the breaking of the rules, but this is where the overmoderation comes in. Nobody is given the chance to <i>bend </i> the rules to get a decent conversation out. A few days ago I did a search of my name, and went back to February of this year, reading all of the posts I posted. People didn´t break the rules often, but they were bent. Nowadays it seems like a the slightest smell of trouble a thread is locked. I wouldn´t be suprised if by the time I finish this it´s bound for a lock. I remember when I returned after my &quot;summer holiday&quot; in about September. I hadn´t posted more than four times since June, I was too busy playing FL. Sadly that time has passed, and the box for FL sits gathering dust on my shelf, between some old CD cases and Half-Life. But anyways, When I returned Taw had already left, and even though he wasn´t perfect he was a valuable asset to this community, maybe more so than the other regulars. Upon my return I also realized that a lot had changed since my abrupt departure, half of the people here were moderators. People whom I had welcomed to this forum were moderators. People who personally have no flaws but some of whom I wouldn´t necessarily consider more than regulars. This was odd, but I was okay with it. I soon figured out that this place was not the place I had left, the people were the same... mostly, but the atmosphere had changed. A change not for the better. What happened to the days of &quot;the four spammers of the Apocalypse&quot;? The days where &quot;bashing&quot; was punished with just a warning and a laugh? The days when there were about 10 forums, and fewer moderators? This place was a great community, we hung around through the dry days and pulled together in times of mourning. This place was my escape from reality, I could meet people from other parts of the world, share different ideas, all in all just learn about society and life. I learned many lessons before my &quot;summer holiday&quot;, but I have only learned one since. You can probably infer what it entails. Ironically, as I wrote most of this, Nickelback was playing on my stereo with &quot;Where the Good Times Gone?&quot;. And don´t take this as my departing statement, I´m not going anywhere at the moment, unless this thread is cut off without any just cause. Otherwise I won´t even give you the chance to destroy my exit. Have fun in the Real World Esky.

sometimes a problem does lie within a single forum. i´ve seen a site go completely to rubble because absolutely nobody posted in any other forum but the &quot;off topic&quot; forum. people saw it as their chance to go on a raging spamfest, including one person who just kept ip spoofing to make new accounts when he got banned, which is just horrid. the site went copletely downward at a 90 degree andle, and kept speeding on down until the first hurricane in florida (that is where the server was) and the thing has never been up since. they just gave up on it, the only people who knew about it (and it was still a long time until even tehy found out) were the moderators. i only know this because i am friends with several of those moderators. they were conversing on getting rid of the off topic forum (for awhile at least) if it happens here, it will be fine with me. as i said before, it doesn´t matter to me what forums are here, as long as there ARE forums and there IS a site. i will be here. gowser, are you referring to deviant? i kinda like deviant...reminds me of me...back in the day....<img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle><img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle><img src=smilies/icon_smile_big.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> Edited by - Wolf_Demon on 2/4/2005 3:59:00 PM

So long Esquilax. Sad to see you hanging up the rabbit ears. I´d like to take a moment to ask, what exactly are the criteria for moderatership? Are they simply appointed, or is their a good deal of discussion and interveiw behind it? I suppose what I´m asking is how you choose whom amongst the masses is worthy to take on the duties of a moderator. I´m not opposed to the number of mods, after all as site admins its ultimately Eraser and bp´s decision, but perhaps there could be public discussion as to whom is actually chosen. Perhaps there could be a public ´confirmation hearing´ as there is for presidential cabinet nominees, or a poll to gather public opinion as to which ´nominee´ could be chosen. Just an idea. As to making people feel more comfortable here, I think it would be helpful to have what goes on ´behind the scenes´ in moderator land publicized a bit more. Hmmm.... there is no real way to salvage TLR, not to its former glory.
